Il s'agit d'un système de classification pan-européen exhaustif, prenant en compte tous les types d'habitats : de l'habitat naturel à l'habitat artificiel de l'habitat terrestre aux habitats d'eau douce et marins.
Considérée comme une typologie de référence au niveau européen, elle sera également utilisée comme support dans le cadre de la directive INSPIRE. De ce fait, une compréhension partagée et une appropriation de cette classification s'avèrent nécessaires.
Le présent document propose donc la traduction en français de la version 2008 de la classification EUNIS pour les habitats naturels terrestres présents sur le territoire français métropolitain. La traduction opérée se veut totalement fidèle au texte d'origine, sans addition ou précision, avec toutefois quelques corrections mineures.
On y trouve : une présentation de la classification EUNIS (historique, construction) et de la démarche de traduction, la classification proprement dire accompagnée de diagrammes d'identification des habitats pour les deux premiers niveaux.
Dans un document complémentaire, on trouvera les correspondances entre habitats EUNIS et habitats CORINE Biotopes (dans les deux sens) pour faciliter l'utilisation du document." The EUNIS habitat system consists of a database together with explanatory documentation. EUNIS habitats are arranged in a hierarchy, starting at level 1. They provide a comprehensive typology for the habitats of Europe and its adjoining seas. This report provides full documentation of EUNIS habitats to level 4 for marine habitats and to level 3 for terrestrial and freshwater habitats.
Marine habitats, their descriptions, and the criteria for deriving them, were extensively revised following an expert workshop in Helsinki in July 2004. Terrestrial and freshwater habitats were critically reviewed by us in 2004. Many new definitions were added and most of the existing definitions were revised. A few names were changed. The results of these changes are presented as a set of factsheets for habitats at levels 1 to 4 (marine) and levels 1 to 3 (terrestrial and freshwater), accompanied by a key and a glossary. In an annex, the names and index numbers of all EUNIS habitats are listed, including the higher levels." Using the comprehensive plot dataset from the European Vegetation Archive (EVA), all grassland habitats (habitat group E) of Europe (including the coastal grey dunes, habitat subgroup B1.4) are formally defined with a unanimous floristic definition (with a new expert system approach, implemented in JUICE). For the 53 distinguished habitat types of grasslands sensu lato, for the first time lists of diagnostic, constant and dominant species are provided, based on statistical evaluation of the whole European dataset. Further, each of this habitats is presented with a distribution map based on the plots contained in EVA (ca. 250,000 georeferenced plots). Further cross-walks to the old EUNIS classification and the system used in the new European Red List of habitats are provided. Ce guide est un outil d'accompagnement à l'identification des habitats avec la typologie EUNIS. L'objectif est d'atténuer les différences d'interprétation entre utilisateurs. Il permet à l'écologue généraliste de mieux appréhender cette typologie d'habitat et d'améliorer la rigueur et la reproductibilité des interprétations et identifications réalisées sur le terrain comme préalable aux inventaires, cartographies et suivis. À terme, cela permet d'entrevoir une bancarisation plus efficace des informations sur la distribution des habitats. Ce guide présente la typologie EUNIS (Partie A). Il contient des clefs de détermination (Partie B) et des descriptions illustrées (Partie C) pour que l'observateur identifie les habitats jusqu'au niveau 3 de cette typologie. Les critères pour identifier un habitat ne requièrent pas de connaissances confirmées en botanique ou en phytosociologie. En complément, les habitats qui peuvent représenter des objectifs particuliers de conservation sont indiqués (Annexe). Le niveau 3 de la classification EUNIS peut permettre d'identifier des habitats sans relevé floristique, donc toute l'année. Néanmoins, dans le cadre d'une démarche conservatoire (évaluation, suivi, action fine de gestion.), il peut être pertinent d'aller au-delà (par ex. niveaux 4 ou 5 d'EUNIS) ou d'utiliser par exemple la classification phytosociologique (prodrome des végétations de France).
