In this article, we present five proposals and three requests for binding decisions. We also introduce the name Oenanthetalia aquaticae Hejný ex Landucci et al. ord. nov., the lectotypes of the names Phragmitetum australis Savich 1926 nom. corr., Typho-Scirpetum mucronati Tallon 1950, and Apion nodiflori Segal in Westhoff et Den Held 1969, and the neotypes of the names Oenantho aquaticae-Rorippetum amphibiae Lohmeyer 1950 and Scrophulario aquaticae-Apietum nodiflori Maas ex Segal in Westhoff et Den Held 1969." Ce projet de l'UNESCO faisait partie d'un vaste programme destiné à mettre en évidence les relations de l'homme avec son environnement. La Suisse était rattachée au projet européen MAB-6, qui traitait de l"'étude de l'impact des activités humaines sur les écosystèmes de montagne". Sous la coordination des professeurs B. Messerli et P. Messerli de l'Institut de géographie de l'Université de Berne, quatre régions test ont été choisies en Suisse et, parmi elles, la région d'Aletsch. A ce titre, diverses études botaniques soutenues par le FNRS (projet 4. 331. 2. 79. 55) y furent effectuées de 1979 à 1982, sous la responsabilité du Dr C. Béguin (Chaumont/Neuchâtel). En 1985, nous recevions de la part de M. le professeur P. Messerli, l'autorisation d'utiliser les résultats restés inexploités à la fin du projet MAB dans une thèse qui fut défendue à l'Université de Berne en 1991. La présente publication correspond à notre mémoire revu, corrigé et augmenté, où il a été tenu compte des publications dont nous n'avions pas eu connaissance, ainsi que celles ayant paru durant l'année 1991." The edition consists of 14 Definitions, 7 Principles, 53 Articles, and 7 Appendices. When compared with the previous edition, the main amendments are: (a) the acceptance of electronic publications (Art. 1); (b) the introduction of binding decisions (Definition XIV, Principle II, Articles 1, 2b, 3c, 29b, 40, 42, 44, Appendices 6 and 7); (c) the mandatory use of the English or Latin terminology for syntaxonomic novelties (Definition II, Principle II, Articles 3d and 3i); (d) the introduction of autonyms for the main ranks when the corresponding secondary ranks are created (Articles 13b and 24); (e) the automatic correction of the taxon names (name-giving taxa) used in the names of syntaxa in accordance with the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (ICN) (Article 44); (f) the possibility to mutate the name of a syntaxon in using other correct, alternative names for the name-giving taxa (Article 45); (g) the introduction of inadequate names, a new category of rejected names (Definition V, Articles 43 through 45); and (h) the introduction of a conserved type (Definition XIII, Article 53). A new alliance, the Polygalo mediterraneae-Bromion erecti (mesophilous post-cultural grasslands), was introduced for the Peninsular Italy. We further validate and typify the Armerietalia rumelicae (perennial grasslands supported by nutrient-poor on siliceous bedrocks at altitudes characterized by the submediterranean climate of central-southern Balkan Peninsula), the Securigero-Dasypyrion villosae (lawn and fallow-land tall-grass annual vegetation of Italy), and the Cirsio vallis-demoni-Nardion (acidophilous grasslands on siliceous substrates of the Southern Italy).
