Since these species are naturalizing – at least one even on a relatively large scale – assessing their genuine identity is necessary. Three species are eventually accepted: G. coarctata (previously erroneously ascribed to G. purpurea), G. pensylvanica and G. subfalcata (surprisingly often overlooked for the native species Gnaphalium sylvaticum). In this paper all are copiously depicted and characters useful for their separation are discussed. A key for their identification is also presented, as are details about their distribution and habitat preferences in Belgium and the Netherlands. The naturalized populations reported in this paper are probably the northernmost known worldwide. Finally, the genome size was assessed for several accessions. It turned out that genome size does hardly allow to separate G. pensylvanica and G. subfalcata." The majority of them have ensued from the adoption of a narrower concept of the generic classificatory unit. The following genera are accepted : Chamaepitys HILL (Ajuga L. p. p.), Cota J. GAY (Anthemis L. p. p.), Euchiton CASS. (Gnaphalium L. p. p.), and Rostraria TRIN. (Koeleria PERS. P. P. + Trisetum PERS. p. p.). A new monotypical genus Anemonidium (SPACH) HOLUB is proposed to accomodate Anemone dichotoma L., Further combinations are proposed in Elytrigia DESV., Genistella ORTEGA and Te phroseris (REICHENB.) REICHENB. Nomenclatural problems of Chamaespartium ADANS. 1763 and Genistella ORTEGA 1773 are discussed and Genistella is accepted as the correct generic name for the Genista species with phylloids. Resulting from transfers of some species to other genera, several nomenclatural combinations are proposed in Acetosa, Aconogonon, Avenochloa, Bromopsis, Calathiana, Chamaecytisus, Colym- bada, Dichodon, Eremogone, and Tithymalus. Other combinations have been caused by the change of the taxonomic rank, mostly of subspecific to specific (Arernonia pouzarii, Dactylorhiza ochroleuca, Genistella undulata, Stenactis septentrionalis), especially when supported by differences in the ploïdy levels (Avenochloa occidentalis, Elytrigia flaccidifolia, Erysimum cazorlense, Galium vivianum, Helictotrichon planifolium)."
