"Mitosis in 14 populations of Sarcocornia species collected in Spain, ltaly and Morocco was studied. Previous chromosome counts are confirmed and new ones presented. From the present and previous data, a hypothesis is proposed to explain the origin of the cytotypes 2n = 45, 2n = 54, and 2n = 72, postulating natural hybridization involving polyploid (amphiploid) processes by means of formation of non-reduced gametes. Additionally, the new combinationS. aplini (Lag.) Castroviejo is proposed." (source : auteurs) |
